Hallo Leute,
ist es heute normal das einige Mainboards mit Linux-egal welche Version nicht klar kommen? Habe bisher ein AS Rock Board drin gehabt bis sich rausstellte das es für Linux ungeeignet ist. Die Installation brach entweder immer ab, so bei Ubuntu.
Debian ließ sich installieren, kam dann aber nicht hoch. Habe jetzt ein Asus Motherboard drin u seitdem null Problemo.

Weiß jemand von euch wie man beim Kauf schon erkennen kann in wie fern ein System Linux tauglich ist und ist unter Ubuntu auch Raid stressloß machbar? Wäre gut weil ich die Kiste als Multimediasystem fahre mit 3GHZ Intel Dual Core

Im Prinzip ist immer nur der Chipsatz wichtig und weniger der Mainboard Hersteller.
Im Linuxkernel 2.6.26 habe ich nur einen Treiber für einen älteren VIA Chipsatz gefunden.

Ich empfehle sehr häufig NForce Chipsätze von NVidia und auch gleich noch eine NVidia Grafikkarte.
Damit habe ich die besten Erfahrungen gemacht.

Es werden aber auch noch sehr viele Intel Chipsätze unterstützt.

Zum Thema RAID kann ich nur soviel sagen, das diese billigen Onboard Raid Controller in der Regel nicht unterstützt werden.
Es werden hauptsächlich richtige Hardware Raid Controller von 3Ware und Adaptec unterstützt. Das lohnt sich aber nicht für den Privatanwender.

Software Raid kannst du mit zwei IDE Festplatten (oder SATA Festplatten) machen.
Dazu brauchst du nicht diese Onboard RAID Controller.

PS: Die genaue Chipsatzbezeichnung kannst du dir mit dem lspci Befehl (l ist ein kleines L) anzeigen lassen.
