From London with Love

Hello everyone.

This is my virtual holiday postcard from England.
I\'m staying here with friends of mine, two wonderful people who\'ve been living in Hamburg before but have now rented a small house in the countryside in Sussex/South England.

Yesterday I went to London, my favourite city on earth which I hadn\'t seen since 1989. Anything that\'s changed in the past thirteen years? I suppose not. London: this city is still appetizing and disgusting, cool and cosy, aggressive and peaceful, hectic and idyllic, rich and poor... and all of these contradictions are just inches away from each other.

It\'s impressive and exciting - especially if you make up your mind to take a look behind the curtain. If you try to see London the way a Londoner does in his everyday life: The backside of the city, away from the polished elegance of the inner city quarters crowded by the tourists. Do you see what I mean?
More from here in a couple of days.

Please, stop it Olaf:-)

I love to hate London, its the sheer contradictions I cannot cope with.
I have very set ideas and everything has to be "straight forward" in my life.
I've been to Sussex before and again, I like it but I don't. Its the sort of nice way people treat you there and the beaty and uglynes of the countryside itself. Beautiful, old, comfortable looking country cottages and mansions and on the other hand the vast number of fields without a bloody tree. It puts me off..........
The Westend of London, very impressive etc and then there's the East End, you should go to Marylebone, Mayfair and Westminster and straight afterwards to Brixton, Streatham etc...the differences are apalling.
The English hate changes, so I suppose nothing really changed in 13 years except that there are more Mcdonalds (They love fast food, don't they? Thats what they look like too!)and less hop - on buses.
If you look even deeper inside, you'll be so disgusted...or go to Sheffield, the place where no Londoner has ever dared to go before:-)

Kind regards
TL
