More from London... second impression

Hello everyone.

Here\'s my second virtual postcard from England.
Many thanx to the \'Fab Four\' who responded to the first one.

@Christoph Maus > hope you\'ll tell us a lot more about your holidays soon
This is what happens right now.

@marc zappa jr. > London is einfach nur geil!
Having spent three of six days there, I do have to agree with you.

@Xafford > a cottage in sussex... I\'d really adore to walk in your shoes ... greetings to its royal higness queen elisabeth!

Queen Elizabeth asked me to send her kindest regards right back to you.
Walking in my shoes? Don\'t wish to do so, I\'ve caught a nasty blister under my right foot.
But you are right, the cottage is beautiful, standing all alone in an idyllic landscape.
and the weather\'s fine by the way. Forget all you\'ve heard about foggy London and all the rain in England: What ist happening here is what I call summer.

@Turbi > The Westend, very impressive etc and then there\'s the East End, you should go to Marylebone, Mayfair and Westminster and straight afterwards to Brixton, Streatham etc...the differences are apalling

What you describe is exactly what I\'ve seen. But there are even more contrasts inside the districts:
When you\'re walking through an area which seems quite poor and shabby you will always find
idyllic places like an old gothic church, a nice pub and a green park somewhere.
On the other hand, not all that glitters is gold in the districts where rich people live...

It\'s fascinating to look at all those typically British houses built in traditional victorian style:
Every brick seems to tell a story... not to forget the exciting colours of the wooden entrance doors.
Do you remember?

Hi,

You haven't been here for a while, coz now its summer here its been above 30°C every day since you've been gone.
Anyway, because I mainly spent my days outside London in the surburbs I can't really tell. Richmond, Kingston, Mortlake, Twickenham or Teddington pretty much are inhabited by the same class of people I'd say, and there aren't many differences.
Parks, oh yeah they have loads of those....and pubs too.
I hope you've been to a family pub, there are major differences between commercial and family pubs, family pubs are usualy better coz as the name suggests its run by a family who live upstairs or near by. I don't think that churches could be idyllic, I have something against churches no matter if they are old or new. BUT it always suggests if its worth metal detecting in that particular area or not.
As for the architectual style I beleive that the typical british house was built in the 1920's 2 the 1940's, those victorian ones are commom but not as commom as those WW2 houses.

Comin' back to the weather, I don't think its any worse than here because in 3 years I've made the experience that it will rain mostly during the night, and who cares about that??Foggy it is mostly during autumn, winter and spring....because even then it happens that its quite warm. I remember vividly when I used to do my paper round there every mornin' and it was so bloody foggy that I had to have a torch to see where I'm going, not mentioning where I'm putting the papers:-)

Well c ya
